Maugel DeStefano Architects joined WinnCompanies, F.W. Madigan Company, Governor Maura Healey, Worcester officials, and project partners on October 21 to celebrate the opening of The Residences on Lincoln Square in Worcester, Massachusetts. The $51 million development brings 80 affordable apartments for adults 55 and older to downtown Worcester through the adaptive reuse of the historic Worcester Boys Club and the construction of an adjacent five-story residential building. The original building, which dates to 1930, now houses 16 apartments and resident community spaces, while the new building provides 64 additional homes.
Gilbert Winn, CEO of WinnCompanies, and Governor Maura Healey (holding scissors) lead the cutting of the ribbon.
F.W. Madigan Company served as the design-build manager and engaged Maugel DeStefano Architects as the project architect. Together, the project team helped preserve a significant piece of Worcester's history while creating essential affordable senior housing for the community. The development also incorporates energy-efficient design, including high-performance building systems and an all-electric new building designed to the Phius standard. Resident amenities include a fitness center with an indoor pickleball court, a club lounge, and outdoor gathering spaces.

The ribbon cutting celebrated more than the completion of a building. It marked the culmination of years of effort and a public-private partnership that brought together developers, public agencies, financial partners, and the design and construction team to address a critical community need.
Principal Jonathan Cocker, Architect Kylie Landrey, Designer Alexander Hellmann, and Marketing Director Robin Peters represented Maugel DeStefano at the celebration.
