Portland, Maine — Maugel DeStefano Architects, an award-winning architectural firm that shapes exceptional designs for multifamily, healthcare, labs, biotech, industrial, commercial, and custom residential homes across the Northeastern United States, announced it has completed the design of a 19-unit luxury condominium development in Portland, Maine for Glover Property Management. The residential building is located at 155 Sheridan Street in the highly sought-after East End neighborhood of the city.
The development features a modern aesthetic that harmonizes with the surrounding architecture and showcases a mix of one- and two-bedroom units, each offering either an outdoor deck or an at-grade patio. Residents will enjoy a suite of shared amenities, such as a rooftop deck, indoor trash and recycling facilities, bike storage, and a mail/package room.
“The development on Sheridan Street posed a considerable challenge due to its compact lot size of 18,140 SF and a 40-foot grade variation,” said Jeremy Baldwin, multifamily studio lead at Maugel DeStefano Architects. “Despite these constraints, the design team successfully optimized the number of units and incorporated exterior patios and decks to provide natural light into units set deeper into the steep terrain.”
Additionally, the team skillfully navigated the complex zoning laws and other hurdles associated with the site’s proximity to Fort Sumner Park. Given the building’s visibility from the park, a green roof was initially required. However, through creative problem solving, the team recommended lowering the building’s height while still fulfilling the client’s requirements.
Engineering project team members included Terradyn Consultants, civil; TFMoran, structural; and Wozny Barbar & Associates, mechanical.
