For the past thirty years, Harvard-based Maugel DeStefano Architects has leveraged innovation to address its clients’ most critical design challenges. Adopting an approach that never says “no”, but rathe ask, “how?”, Maugel DeStefano has shaped exceptional designs for medical, laboratory, life sciences, industrial, multifamily and corporate real estate across Greater Worcester and New England.
Established in 1993, with just two employees, Maugel DeStefano has expanded to a team of approximately 35 professionals, with offices in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The award-winning firm is recognized for its proficiency in strategic planning, architecture and interior design, new constructions, and asset repositioning across various sectors, including healthcare, industrial, science & advanced technology, multifamily, commercial and custom residential.
Under the leadership of Principals Jonathan Cocker, Mike Kunz, and Mark Pelletier, who became equal majority shareholders in 2022, Maugel DeStefano remains intensely focused on client advocacy and resolving design challenges through innovation and creativity. The firm’s growth and strong reputation in the market today are attributed to its design expertise and its ability to address the space challenges faced by companies in rapidly-evolving economic and technological landscapes.
Over the years, Maugel DeStefano Architects has designed 250 million square feet of premier space for clients ranging from real estate developers to direct users in a diverse array of industries, including life sciences, medical devices, biopharma, biomanufacturing, manufacturing, multifamily, commercial, as well as corporate interiors.
In 2023, Maugel DeStefano Architects was honored as the 2023 Architecture Firm of the Year by the Boston Real Estate Times. Later that year, the firm made its debuted on the Boston Business Journal’s List of Largest Architectural Firms and secured the top spot on the Worcester Business Journal's List of Top Architectural Firms.
The firm is currently engaged in numerous multifamily projects in the City of Worcester, such as the Residences on Lincoln Square, which involves the adaptive re-use of the historic Worcester Boys Club into affordable senior housing; Franklin Lofts, featuring 364 units on Franklin Street; Poet Hill Residences, with 210 units on Hemans Street; and the design of three multifamily projects for Polar Views on Lamartine, Grosvenor, and Chandler Streets. Completed projects include The Kiln at 222 Brooks Street, as well as concept designs and permitting for 241 Southbridge Street and Five Madison Street.
Across the Greater Worcester region, Maugel DeStefano has developed a range of life science facilities, including R&D labs, biomanufacturing facilities, diagnostics labs, and lab-ready buildings. Healthcare projects encompass hospital and outpatient facility renovations, behavioral health centers, and medical office suites. Additionally, the firm has worked on industrial facilities, banks, and corporate interiors.
