Keeping the brick shell intact, and an arduous demolition of the interiors, allowed for a complete redesign from the inside out. Original hearths were given new life, existing materials were re-used to fashion a rough-hewn bar surface and display areas. Floorboards were salvaged and previously compartmentalized rooms were opened up to create spacious dining areas. An addition was added to provide the necessary space for a modern, functional, kitchen and required elevator, handicapped lavatories, and egress stair. Interiors were designed to instill a contemporary edge to the historic envelope.
