With a staff of 35 professionals in strategic planning, architecture, and interior design, Maugel DeStefano Architects has the expertise to provide services for everything from long-range master planning to the design and execution of complex construction projects and asset repositionings.
Maugel DeStefano Architects was honored with the 2025 NH Home of the Year Award by the NH Home Design Awards and recognized as the 2023 Architecture Firm of the Year by the Boston Real Estate Times for outstanding work in commercial real estate.
Brent Maugel established the firm in 1993, laying the foundation for our legacy of design excellence. In 2018, we marked our 25th anniversary by expanding our leadership team, naming Daniel Barton, Jonathan Cocker, Mike Kunz, and Mark Pelletier as principals alongside Brent to support continued long-term growth.
The following year, we acquired DeStefano Architects of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, strengthening our presence and expanding our reach across New England. Founder Lisa DeStefano became a principal in the combined firm and DeStefano Architects operated under the name DeStefano Maugel Architects.
In April 2022, we unified our brand under the name Maugel DeStefano Architects, reflecting the rich legacies of both firms. Later that year, Principals Cocker, Kunz, and Pelletier became equal majority shareholders and took on daily leadership of the firm, while Principals Barton and DeStefano continued in their established roles.
In January of 2023, Brent Maugel was named Principal Emeritus.
Taking the time to understand what's important to our clients is one of our core values. We bring more to you than just drawings on a piece of paper that can be priced for construction. Mutual respect, understanding, and openness are the keys to designing a project that expresses not only a shared goal but a shared vision.
Learn MoreEveryone likes to lay claim to being innovative, but at Maugel DeStefano we use innovation to solve problems. We're not afraid to think differently or think big, because that approach has always served our clients well in all the industries we serve.
We approach all projects with an open mind, looking for opportunities to use our design expertise to create innovative solutions and present multiple design options for clients.
Our approach is never to say "No," but always ask "How?" to find creative and novel approaches to client requests, tight budgets, or unique design challenges. We avoid overdesign that can lead to high construction costs with little end-user benefit, favoring instead an approach that addresses current needs and anticipates future needs.
Our clients have benefitted from millions of dollars in savings resulting from smart design recommendations, making Maugel DeStefano the ideal choice for long-term return on your investment.
Meaningful community service is not only supported, it is encouraged. We enthusiastically support each individual's desire to enrich their community and to give back to the causes they hold dear. Some of these efforts have grown into annual events supported on a corporate level. Others, remain individual passions which Maugel DeStefano supports through monetary donations, employee volunteer workdays, and a charitable matching program. It is our hope that the community relationships we build will be as meaningful and timeless as our architecture. Below are just a few of the charities we've supported since our inception in 1993.
We believe that great work comes from challenged, stimulated, happy people. Our work environment is lively, down-to-earth, and supports a work-life balance. We embrace differences. Everyone's expertise and opinions are valued, and egos are checked at the door. If we sound like a good fit, we'd love to talk with you.
